UN Commits to Improving Global Migrant Flows

A majority of UN states adopted a non-binding global pact to better handle migrant flows.

As a gesture of co-operation and commitment to helping migrants across the globe, more than 150 UN countries agreed to a migration pact at the Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration in Marrakech, Morocco.

Although it is not legally binding and does not interfere with the sovereign rights of nations to set their own immigration laws and policies, the pact nevertheless establishes a framework for the better handling of international migrant flows.

Specifically, it aims to reduce illegal migration, improve the integration of migrants, and facilitate their return home.
