Updated Guidance on Online Student Post-Grad Work Permit Eligibility

The Canadian government has provided more guidance for international students studying online from outside Canada.

Students in this position can now accumulate time towards the length of a post-graduation work permit beginning from when they apply for a study permit.

If students applied for study permits prior to starting their programs, any online study time from outside Canada since spring 2020 counts toward their post-graduation work permit. Previously, only time spent studying online after approval was counted.

International students can also complete 100 per cent of their programs online if the program is between 8 and 12 months in length and they started their studies between May and September 2020.
