Latest on Canadian Immigration

For those applying for Canadian citizenship, the time spent abroad due to COVID-19 will not count as days in Canada. You must still meet the physical presence requirement. 

In some cases, time spent outside Canada can count toward the physical presence requirement for citizenship if you were a permanent resident employed in or with the: 
  • Canadian Armed Forces 
  • federal public administration 
  • public service of a province or territory
You have lived outside Canada with your Canadian spouse or common-law partner or permanent resident spouse, common-law partner, or parent who was employed in or with the:
  • Canadian Armed Forces 
  • federal public administration 
  • public service of a province or territory

All citizenship events are cancelled until further notice. This includes citizenship ceremonies, citizenship tests and retests, hearings (including videoconference hearings), interviews, citizenship events in our temporary offices (itinerant service trips).

There will be delays to the processing time. IRCC is accepting new citizenship applications.
