Family Reunification Applications for Parents, Grandparents, and Other Relatives Has Been Reached

Application cap reached until June 25, 2026

The Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) has reached the maximum number of undertaking applications it can receive from June 26, 2024, to June 25, 2026, for sponsoring parents, grandparents, or other family members.

No new applications for these family members will be accepted until June 25, 2026. Any applications submitted beyond the cap will be returned without processing, and review fees will not be deposited. Applicants whose files are returned can reapply once a new intake period is announced. MIFI is expected to release details on future application management by June 25, 2026.

Sponsorship applications for certain other relatives—such as minor dependent children, minor children to be adopted, or adult children dependent on parents due to a physical or mental condition—remain open.

This announcement follows a similar update earlier this month when the cap for sponsorship of spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners, and children aged 18 or older was also reached.
