Immigration Fraud Leads to Jail Sentence

The Canada Border Services Agency recently announced that disbarred lawyer Angela Codina has been sentenced to seven years in prison

Disbarred lawyer Angelina Codina has been sentenced to seven years in prison for immigration fraud and ordered to pay $30,200 in restitution to four of her victims, following an extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigations Section of the CBSA’s Greater Toronto Area Region.

Ms. Codina was formerly a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada but was disbarred in 2002. She has been found guilty on four counts of‎ "Advise for Consideration without Authorization" contrary to sub-se‎ction 91(1)‎ of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), a section designed to protect victims of immigration fraud, and one count of "Counsel Misrepresentation.”
