Important Update: Study Permit – Proof of Financial Support

New Financial Requirements Take Effect September 1, 2025

Planning to study in Canada? Make sure you have the right documents to prove your financial support. You must show you can pay for tuition, living expenses for yourself and family, and transportation to and from Canada—without needing to work in Canada.

You’ll need to provide at least one form of proof, such as:

  • Tuition and housing receipts
  • Canadian bank account or GIC
  • Proof of a student or education loan from a bank
  • Bank statements for the past 4 months
  • Letter from the person or school giving you money
  • proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program

Note: If you apply for a study permit before September 1, 2025, refer to the current chart to see how much money you need to support yourself and any accompanying family members in Canada.

These financial requirements are updated annually.

Reminder: Starting September 1, 2025, the minimum amount of required funds will increase. Make sure to review the new amounts if you're applying on or after this date
