Increased Interest Causes NL Immigration Backlog

Applications for the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program are taking twice as long to process as usual owing to a sharp increase in the number of newcomers applying.

While the standard time for processing applications is 25 business days, current wait times are two and a half months, as there are 50% more applications than there were last year.

Processing the applications more efficiently may mean hiring more immigration officers if the trend continues.

The goal set for the province was 1,700 newcomers by 2022, a goal that will likely be surpassed this year.
