After a transition period of one year, a new language requirement for Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ) applicants takes effect as of July 22, 2021.
The measure requires spouses or de facto spouses to demonstrate proficiency in spoken French equivalent to Level 4 on the Échelle québécoise des compétences en français des personnes immigrantes adultes.
To meet this level, applicants can study French for free in courses offered by the ministry while receiving a support allowance for full or part-time study. If the applicant spouse or de facto spouse completed a program of study in Quebec as of December 31, 2020, they do not need to demonstrate their knowledge of spoken French.
