On March 5, 2021, the Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, issued a statement to mark Fraud Prevention Month.
In his comments, the Minister noted that Canada is a top destination for newcomers and highlighted the importance of the creation of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants in preventing fraud in the immigration industry.
Minister Mendicino stated: “Most importantly, we have committed nearly $50 million to fight fraud over the next few years and have created a new College to improve oversight of immigration consultants”.
The Minister’s statement concluded with a reminder to only hire government-approved representatives when employing a rep to assist with applications.
