Minister: Startup Visa Key to Economic Growth

The Honourable Marco Mendicino, P.C., M.P., Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, believes the startup visa is key to Canada’s economic recovery.

“Coming out of the pandemic, the clear message we are sending with the startup visa program is that Canada is open for business,” the Minister noted, highlighting the competitive edge the program gives Canada when compared with other nations.

Starting in 2013 as a pilot project, the startup visa has been a permanent part of Canada’s immigration offerings since 2018. The Minister also noted that international students play a vital role in the success of the startup visa program. Many international students who come to Canada become tech innovators and small business owners. More than 200 foreign entrepreneurs have become permanent residents through the program.
