New FIPPA Amendments Strengthen Privacy Protections and Digital Oversight
New amendments to Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) took effect on July 1, marking a significant shift in how public institutions handle digital information. The changes aim to safeguard personal information and perform privacy impact assessments for institutions falling under FIPPA. The amendments also require reporting breaches to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC).
