Parents and Grandparents Program to Reopen in January

The Parents and Grandparents Program offers citizens over the age of 18 an opportunity to sponsor their parents or grandparents, allowing them to become Canadian citizens.

Sponsors must support their parents or grandparents financially and provide for their essential needs. The Program is a vital path for immigrant families wanting to reunify in Canada, and it continues to garner high demand. As a result, the Canadian government is making changes to the program and will release more details in a few weeks.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister Ahmed Hussen announced that the Program’s intake will be updated so that candidates are selected in the order they apply rather than randomly, as it was done previously.

Reopening in late January, the Program remains an essential service to help families stay together.
