Clarified rules for work permits under the International Mobility Program
Foreign
nationals seeking temporary work in Canada in transportation-related
occupations—such as marine workers, captains, flight crew, train conductors,
engineers, food services workers, entertainers on trips, and transport
drivers—may work with or without a work permit, depending on their situation.
The
program delivery instructions regarding marine workers under paragraph 186(s)
of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) have been
extensively updated. These changes provide officers with clearer guidance and
examples of when individuals qualify to work without a permit under R186(s), as
well as updated definitions of “crew members.”
