Three More Pre-Settlement Services Get Up to $4.6 M in Funding

Pre-settlement services offer new and innovative resources tailored to meet the needs of newcomers as they adjust to life in Canada.

BC’s Pacific Immigrant Resources Society, the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB), and Kids Help Phone are new recipients of funding for pre-settlement services

The Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) will receive $1,157,694 to develop short-term child-care strategies in tandem with employment services for newcomer women. The FFCB will receive $1.7 million, as it is one of four francophone organizations designed to help francophone newcomers acclimatize. They will partner with La Cité in Ontario as a second point of contact for francophone newcomers who intend to settle in BC.

Kids Help Phone will receive $1,690,940 to expand their existing services to meet the mental health needs of young newcomers. New training for counsellors will include cultural sensitivity training. They will also be conducting a 6-month trial of translation services in the most necessary languages.
