Express Entry Invitations for Skilled Newcomers with STEM Experience

Great news for people with work experience in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently announced the first-ever Express Entry invitations for skilled newcomers with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) experience. By prioritizing skilled newcomers with STEM experience, Canada aims to fill key positions that contribute to the nation's economic growth and technological advancement.

IRCC has confirmed that the first round of category-based draws for STEM professions will occur during the first week of July 2023. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced the introduction of category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates on May 31.

The list of STEM professions includes architects, civil engineers, data scientists, engineer managers, land surveyors, mathematicians, software developers and programmers, urban and land use planners, web developers and programmers.

Minister Fraser says, “Canada’s ability to remain at the cutting edge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics depends largely on our country’s ability to recruit top talent from around the world. I’m excited to announce this STEM category-based selection round with my colleague, Minster Champagne, which will increase access to permanent residence for skilled workers with STEM experience. We look forward to welcoming these talented and innovative newcomers to our country.”
