Are download verification tools actually necessary these days?

With all the built-in security features in modern operating systems and browsers, I'm starting to wonder if dedicated download verification tools are actually necessary these days. I mean, antivirus software is constantly running in the background, and browsers are getting better at detecting malicious websites and downloads. Are extra tools just overkill now, or do they still provide a valuable layer of protection that I shouldn't be without? What is the consensus today, with more security?

That's a valid point! It's true that security is getting better all the time, but I think it is still necessary to understand the risks. I was just reading an article that addresses this very question, highlighting mobile downloads. You should read https://corezing.com/why-download-verification-matters-in-a-mobile-first-world/ . Even though built-in security is improving, the threats are also becoming more sophisticated. Verification tools provide an extra layer of defense that can catch things that your antivirus or browser might miss. I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry, especially on mobile devices.
