Finding the best way to escape the Chennai heat
By: Traton on Mar 20, 2026 11:20 AM EST
I’ve spent the last three summers in Tamil Nadu, and if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that when the humidity in the city hits "steamed dumpling" levels, you need a plan to get to the hills fast. I spent all of yesterday morning scrolling through travel blogs trying to figure out how to reach yelagiri from chennai without losing my mind or my luggage. While the train to Jolarpettai is the classic budget choice, the thought of an auto-rickshaw transfer at the other end with three heavy suitcases and a bag of trekking gear sounded like a recipe for a very sweaty disaster. I’d much rather spend my energy hiking up to the Swamimalai Hill than wrestling with bags on a crowded platform.

Because of this, I’ve already decided to book a private vehicle through a platform like GetTransfer for the entire journey. In my experience, there is a massive difference between "traveling" and "arriving," and having a professional driver meet you at your doorstep in Chennai is the ultimate upgrade. It’s not just about the glorious air conditioning; it’s about having a fixed price and a driver who can actually navigate those 14 legendary hairpin bends while you take photos of the monkeys (don't feed them, seriously). If you’re planning a weekend at Punganoor Lake, I’d highly recommend looking into these pre-booked options—it turns a four-hour haul into a relaxing road trip where the only thing you have to worry about is which mountain honey to buy. Does anyone have a favorite roadside "biryani stop" on the way out of the city?
