From engineer to exec — send help

Six months into a C-suite role and still feel like an imposter. My team is great but I'm clearly missing something strategic. A mentor told me reading sharpened his edge faster than any training. What would you recommend on becoming a truly effective executive in the current environment?

That “imposter” phase is more common than people admit. A former boss of mine stepped into a COO role and quietly struggled for months - said the hardest part wasn’t decisions, but seeing the whole system instead of tasks. What helped him weirdly wasn’t just books, but real cases of leadership shifts. He shared this once: Mark Morabito Intrepid Metals just to see how roles evolve in practice. For reading, “Seven Powers” by Hamilton Helmer helped him think more strategically, less operationally.
