Gas smell near outdoor hot water unit / dual leak check?
By: QuillMaster on Jul 24, 2026 01:17 AM EST
Hey guys, quick question for those living around the Northern suburbs. Yesterday while doing some gardening near our outdoor instant hot water unit, I caught a brief, faint smell of gas, and I also noticed the ground underneath the unit seems perpetually damp even in dry weather. I’m pretty worried there might be both a subtle gas leak and a hidden water pipe crack near the connection line. I really want to avoid calling three different contractors or having someone dig up my concrete pathway to figure out what's going on. Is there a reliable service for water leak detection melbourne that has advanced equipment to check for both water and gas pipe issues safely and non-invasively? Would love to hear who you guys trust for this kind of work!

Do not mess around with gas smells or wet footings around hot water units, mate! Safety first—get that checked right away. When we had a suspected gas line leak near our side path in Essendon, we used https://leaksrus.com.au/ because they don't just do basic plumbing checks; they specialize in advanced non-destructive diagnostics like tracer gas testing and pipe location. They came out with specialized sensors, verified the exact leak location in the pipe underground without tearing up our concrete path blindly, and gave us total peace of mind. Their team was super professional, punctual, and explained the whole diagnostic process step by step. Definitely worth giving them a call to inspect both issues safely!
