High IQ makes life harder, not easier
By: chriss44 on Jul 20, 2026 01:31 AM EST
I scored high on an IQ test and honestly, I think it's made my life more difficult. Overthinking comes naturally and I often analyze situations to the point where simple decisions become exhausting. Social interactions feel awkward because I'm constantly reading between the lines. It feels like my brain never switches off, and I can't just relax and enjoy things like everyone else seems to. Does anyone else feel like having a high IQ is actually a burden rather than an advantage?

That's a perspective that doesn't get talked about enough. People usually assume a high IQ is nothing but an advantage, but the reality can feel completely different.
Overthinking every little thing is exhausting. Small decisions turn into long mental debates, and social situations feel like a constant puzzle where every word and expression gets analyzed. The brain just doesn't have an off switch, and relaxing takes actual effort.
It's not that there's anything wrong with being quiet or thoughtful, but it does make ordinary situations feel heavier than they probably should. Maybe the real challenge isn't IQ itself, but the way it shapes everyday experiences in ways that aren't obvious from the outside.
