Instagram doesn't notify you about unfollowers

A way to find out who unfollowed you on Instagram
I'm not trying to create a scandal or chase follower counts—I'm just genuinely curious.
I recently posted a story on Instagram that I knew some people wouldn't like, and shortly after, I noticed my follower count had dropped slightly. I'm not an influencer; I only follow people I know in real life, plus a few meme pages. I'm just curious about who unfollowed me, nothing more.
From what I've been able to find so far:
When you download your data, it only shows your current followers, not your previous ones.
Most third-party apps seem risky or against Instagram's rules.
So, I'm wondering: Is there a legal and safe way to track unfollowers, or is manually checking profiles the only option?

Third-party apps can be a convenient solution if you choose them carefully. Some services help track subscriber changes, display statistics, and provide a more complete understanding of activity. The key is to use apps with good reviews and avoid giving unnecessary access.

There's no proper way to find out who unfollowed you within Instagram itself. The data only shows the current status, without any history. Manual verification is an option, but it's inconvenient, especially if you have more than a couple dozen followers. A safer option is to choose recentlyfollowed which works without directly accessing your account, allowing you to see changes and identify who has disappeared from your list without sharing your password or other risks.
