Moving my online store to a modular setup
By: Bryant on Jun 06, 2026 01:27 PM EST
Been running a small ecom brand and the current all-in-one platform is holding me back design-wise. I want to pick the best tools for each function separately instead of being locked into one vendor. How do I even start moving away from the monolith without breaking everything?

The idea is picking separate services for cart, search, and content, then wiring them through APIs. It lets you swap any component later without replatforming the whole business, which matters as your stack grows. A lot of devs are moving toward composable commerce for this reason, you can check out an open source framework here https://medusajs.com/ . It handles the backend logic and lets you plug in whatever frontend or tools you prefer.

Map out your current pain points before touching any code. Write down which features feel clunky, then research dedicated services that handle only that one thing well, swapping everything at once is a recipe for a broken checkout on launch day.
