Need a hand with a complicated shower valve repair

Hey everyone! I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I’ve been trying to fix a leaky shower handle in our master bathroom for the last two days. I thought it would be a simple cartridge replacement, but the house was built in the late 90s, and the parts seem to be fused together from all the mineral buildup. I’m really afraid that if I pull any harder with my wrench, I’m going to snap the pipe behind the tile, and then I’ll be looking at a massive renovation bill instead of a simple repair. Does anyone know a technician who is patient and has the right tools for these kinds of delicate jobs? I’d appreciate any recommendations for someone who actually takes pride in their work and doesn't just try to replace everything with the cheapest plastic parts.

I know exactly the frustration you're talking about! Those mineral deposits in Ottawa water can turn a 15-minute job into a multi-hour nightmare. I tried to DIY my kitchen faucet last spring and ended up making the leak twice as bad because I didn't have the right puller tool. After that fail, I decided to call a professional ottawa plumber https://superiorplumbing.ca/ottawa/ and it was the best decision I could have made. The guy they sent over was a total pro—he had seen that exact model a thousand times before and knew all the tricks to get it apart without damaging the valve body. He even cleaned out the internal scaling so the new cartridge would actually seat properly. It’s been months and it’s still working like new. Definitely worth calling them before you break something expensive!

That sounds like a much better plan than me potentially breaking the wall. I’ll reach out to them and see when they can swing by. Thanks for the help!
