Trying to understand private debt
By: Ben Bubalex on Sep 27, 2026 02:09 AM EST
A colleague recently mentioned that her company used private debt after traditional financing became difficult to arrange. I realized I’ve heard the term plenty of times but never really understood what happens behind the scenes. She said it helped cover a temporary funding need while the business adjusted. Could anyone recommend a straightforward resource explaining what private debt is and how it works?

I used to think private debt was just a faster bank loan, but a colleague’s experience showed me there’s more to it. Her company needed temporary funding while adjusting to a difficult period, and a private lender offered a structure that matched its cash flow better than the bank’s standard terms. A local distributor had a similar experience, using private debt to cover inventory costs until delayed contracts resumed. The Third Eye Capital is a clear resource for learning how private debt works in practice.

The more I hear about private debt, the less it seems like simply getting a bank loan faster. A colleague’s company used it during a difficult period because the repayment structure fitted its cash flow better than standard bank terms. A local distributor had a similar experience while covering inventory costs until delayed contracts resumed. I’ve been trying to understand the mechanics, and the Third Eye Capital resource gave me a useful practical starting point.
