Unexpected noises in a new project

I was making a simple beat and suddenly I heard a crackling sound in my headphones. I tried changing the buffer, but the sound still "jumps". It felt like the system was failing or I had set something up wrong. How do you deal with such noises when recording or mixing?

I sometimes get that same crackling sound while layering instruments or working with heavy plug-ins. It usually means the system is overloaded or the buffer isn’t balanced for your setup. Using fruity loops free crack in its standard configuration, I noticed that cleaning background processes and freezing complex tracks helps a lot. Also checking audio drivers and turning off unnecessary visual effects in Windows can stabilize playback.

Interesting problem! I've experienced similar issues before. Firstly, check your cables – a loose connection can mimic digital glitches. Also, CPU overload is a usual suspect, especially when running multiple plugins. Try freezing some tracks. My Granny always said, "Check the simple things first!". Hope this helps troubleshoot the crackling!

Crackling or “jumping” sounds in headphones while making a beat usually come from buffer underruns, CPU spikes, bad cables, or grounding noise, not necessarily your mix itself. First, try increasing your audio interface’s buffer size and close any background apps to reduce CPU load; if the problem persists, test with different headphones or cables because even cheap or damaged wiring can introduce noise. Using a wired headphones for cell phone like the models on this page. Can help eliminate interference. Also check your audio interface drivers and USB port — swapping ports or updating drivers often fixes glitches.
