Temporary Foreign Worker Policy Discussion in Kelowna

Policies surrounding temporary foreign workers were a hot topic at a recent forum for ten federal candidates.

On September 22 in a Kelowna all-candidates forum, Conservative candidate Dan Albas proposed a more efficient immigration process, while conservative candidate Tracy Gray touched on prioritizing sponsorship for those facing persecution, as well as better credential recognition.

Liberal candidates spoke about the need to grow Canada’s workforce through both skilled and unskilled labour, arguing that temporary foreign workers are an important piece of the puzzle. However, NDP candidates argued that the temporary foreign worker program needs major overhauls, including allowing TFWs to change jobs, and better permanent residence pathways.
